Everybody said the old Bosworth mansion was haunted, so nobody ever walked near it. Ivy had grown all over the windows and up the walls, the gate was crooked, and you could easily spot bats hanging from the trees. The local neighborhood children would not retrieve their ball if they accidentally threw it over because they were afraid of the voices they heard after it got dark. However, this sounded like a great adventure for me, my  brother, and his friends. I still do not know how I got dragged along.

Since we were going into an old creepy house we decided to bring flashlights. As we were leaving the house we told my dad what we were doing and where we were going. On the long walk to the old Bosworth's mansion, my brother and his friends were making jokes about how I was going to cry, wet my pants, or run away. I cannot say that didn't happen.

Once we reached the house we tried turning on the flashlights, but they wouldn't turn on. This made everything much creepier, but we still entered. The house was very dark and everyone started to get scared. Then we heard footsteps coming from upstairs, and everyone scattered. I ran and hid behind an old dusty drore. Soon everyone realized that the man upstairs wasn't coming. So we regrouped and set out to explore the rest of the mansion. Then we heard more footsteps, only this time louder, and faster, coming closer and closer. We all scattered and hid again, but this time as we regrouped two of my brother's friends were gone--only three of us remained. So we decided to spread out and look for them.

I decided to look up stairs while everyone else split up  and looked down stairs. Soon after that, I heard someone scream. I knew that someone else had disappeared--two left, I thought to myself.  Then I heard footsteps so I ran and hid I saw the last to of my brothers friends run past followed by a man. The man caught them and then bound them up. I then realized that all the friends were captured and only me and my brother were left. I ran out from hiding place, ran down stairs, found my brother and told him what I had seen. Then the man came running down the stairs and he spotted us.  I knew we were dead.

The man had caught us and I knew we were in trouble, but then he pulled of his mask and I realized that it was my dad. From out of the shadows my brothers friends burst out laughing talking about how scared we were, and then I realized that my brother's friends were in on the prank with my dad. Me and my brother just stood there embarrassed about how we had acted. My dad explained that he had taken the batteries out of the flash lights before we left, and that he and my brothers friends had been planning this for weeks. That was the best halloween ever.

  1. Will!!! This is so good!! I loved it, you are an awesome writer with good technique! Something I noticed in the first paragraph, you said, "threw it over because...." maybe change it to, "accidentally threw it over the wall" or,"accidentally threw it on the Bosworth property." Those are just some suggestions, you did great!!! Keep it up. ;)
